While running beside the river, he too falls in and is swept away, but this time, Superman is able to save him and discovers a hidden underground cavern where the real Jackie was swept. Although the fake Jackie is not the real one, Barnett is happy to adopt him anyway, and Superman is able to catch the crooks with the family situation solved.

Action Comics #70 tells the story of "SUPERMAN TAKES A HOLIDAY!" and introduces the new villain, the Thinker, who seems to always be able to outwit the Man of Tomorrow himself. It isn't until Superman decides to take a break and allow Clark Kent to take over that things start to change. The Thinker stages a bank robbery, but Superman captures his henchmen. The Thinker gets away by kidnapping Lois and dropping her from a balloon, forcing Superman to rescue her. Lois thinks it's crazy, but Clark manages to use his powers to thwart the Thinker's next job without revealing his identity. However, the Thinker escapes and takes Clark and Lois captive.
