Action Comics #70 (1944)

Action Comics #70 tells the story of "SUPERMAN TAKES A HOLIDAY!" and introduces the new villain, the Thinker, who seems to always be able to outwit the Man of Tomorrow himself. It isn't until Superman decides to take a break and allow Clark Kent to take over that things start to change. The Thinker stages a bank robbery, but Superman captures his henchmen. The Thinker gets away by kidnapping Lois and dropping her from a balloon, forcing Superman to rescue her. Superman decides to try something new to defeat the Thinker and goes on 'holiday,' allowing Clark to take his place. Lois thinks it's crazy, but Clark manages to use his powers to thwart the Thinker's next job without revealing his identity. However, the Thinker escapes and takes Clark and Lois captive.
