Sensation Mystery #111 (1952)

In Sensation Mystery #111 (1952), we find ourselves drawn into the intriguing story of retired General Roger Fielding. Spending his days enacting battle strategies with his collection of toy soldiers, Fielding was content with his imaginary battlefield, until one fateful morning. Upon returning to his "war room", Fielding notices that his white army has been moved. Incredulously, Fielding believes the toy soldiers, of their own accord, moved during the night.

For several days, Fielding worked out strategies to return the advantage to the blue army. However, every morning, the white army would be found to have regained superior positions. The strain of this constant battle proved to be too much for Fielding's aged heart, and he dies of a heart attack on his imaginary battlefield.

It is then revealed by Fielding's housekeeper that, unbeknownst to Fielding, the general walked in his sleep. At night, the sleepwalking general would move the white army's positions to try to outmaneuver the blue army. Fielding was battling against himself all along, and the strain proved to be too much for his aged heart.
