In Wonder Woman #44 (1950), Diana and the holiday girls venture to the Sargasso Sea only to be caught in a terrible storm that sinks their ship. As Wonder Woman attempts to save the vessel, she is overcome by peculiar seaweed that knocks her unconscious. Upon waking up, she and her friends are captured by De Stroyer, a tyrant who rules over a Roman terrarium built from sunken ships. In a bind, De Stroyer welds chains to her bracelets and orders her to steal an atomic engine, or her friends will pay the price.
Wonder Woman is faced with a tough decision. With Dangeress as her guide, the two travel by submarine to steal the engine. However, their efforts alarm Steve Trevor, who fires upon Dangeress, causing her to drop the lasso, freeing Wonder Woman. While trying to break the chains attached to her bracelets, the bracelets break instead, leaving her with astonishing amazon strength. With ease, Wonder Woman takes out the sub crew and destroys the vessel. She then has Paula Von Gunther weld her bracelets back on before returning to the Sargasso Sea to save her friends.
De Stroyer sends all his forces after Wonder Woman and creates the worst storm that the Atlantic has ever seen. With courage and strength, Diana battles De Stroyer and his forces, freeing her friends from captivity and returning control of the undersea society to the princes he held captive.
