Whiz Comics #58 (1944)

High Value: $950

Minimum Value: $11

In Whiz Comics #58, we're treated to a quartet of tales that showcase the diversity of the comic book medium. First up is "Captain Marvel Retires," where our titular hero hangs up his cape and cowl (at least temporarily) and hands the reigns over to his young sidekick, Billy Batson. It's an interesting twist that shows a different side to the Big Red Cheese.

Next, we have "Mr. Burke's Bargain," a text story that sees a ne'er-do-well make a deal with the devil (or at least a devilish looking fellow) and live to regret it. Sure, it may not have any pictures, but the story is just as gripping as anything drawn on the page.

In "Golden Arrow Meets His Rival," we're introduced to another hero from the Fawcett stable. This time, it's the bow-and-arrow wielding Golden Arrow, who finds himself in a bit of a rivalry with a fellow marksman. Will he come out on top? You'll have to read it to find out.

And last but not least, we have "Ibis and the Little Man Who Isn't There," a whimsical tale that features the magical Ibis and his pint-sized pal, Taia. Together, they investigate a mystery involving a man who seems to be invisible. It's a fun romp that will leave you smiling.

Overall, Whiz Comics #58 is a great example of what makes Golden Age comics so special. With a variety of heroes and genres represented, and stories that are equal parts thrilling and charming, this is a book that's sure to satisfy any reader. If there's one thing you can trust, it's the reputation of classic comic book storytelling, and Whiz Comics #58 delivers in spades.
