In The X-Men #5 (1964), Professor X returns to the X-Men headquarters after being injured while chasing down the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Unfortunately, the explosion robbed him of his telepathy and the X-Men put him to bed. Despite the setback, Jean's parents, John Grey and Elaine Grey, come for a visit. The X-Men quickly scramble to appear normal, and show the Greys around the school. However, when they accidentally activate the Danger Room, a trapped Cyclops is inside and a simulation starts. The Grey's leave satisfied with the progress they see at the school. Meanwhile, Mastermind from Magneto's team is dispatched to find the X-Men but fails to do so. Magneto has a new plan to use the Toad to capture the X-Men. The X-Men tries to take their mind off their troubles by watching TV and come across a young track athlete with incredible leaping abilities. The X-Men rush to his aid and rescue him, but they soon realize that he seems familiar. Toad tries to escape, leading Magneto and the Brotherhood to attack. Angel is captured and taken to Magneto's base on Asteroid M, where he is tortured for information. However, he resists due to Professor X's training. The X-Men rescue him, but Magneto plans to blow them out of an airlock. Scarlet Witch saves them, and they escape in a landing pod. When they return, they find Professor X in good health. He had faked losing his powers as a final exam to see if they could manage on their own. This issue is notable for being the first to introduce Magneto's new base on Asteroid M and one of the first to feature one of the X-Men's parents, the Greys.
