In a daring act of heroism, Banner rushes out to save a civilian in the test area and is caught in the explosion that bombards him with gamma radiation. Thus, begins the transformation into the grey-skinned goliath dubbed The Hulk.

In Part Two – The Hulk Strikes, we see the military hunting down The Hulk while he instinctively seeks out Banner's home to recover his notes on the gamma bomb. The Hulk defeats Drenkov and recovers the notes but demands that a picture of Bruce Banner be taken away. As the sun rises, The Hulk reverts back to Bruce just as the military police arrive.

Part Three – The Search for The Hulk sees the military police discovering Bruce and Rick and taking the spy Igor Drenkov into custody. Still, no trace of The Hulk is found, and the military leave with Banner's notes on the gamma ray bomb. When night falls, Bruce realizes he might revert to The Hulk again.

Part Four – Enter the Gargoyle introduces a new and formidable villain in the form of The Gargoyle, who discovers the appearance of The Hulk and decides to capture him. In Part Five – The Hulk Triumphant, The Gargoyle uses a gun firing mind-control pellets to bend The Hulk and Rick to his will. However, The Gargoyle recognizes Bruce as one of America's foremost atomic scientists and offers to cure him of his hideous form.
