In The Flash #116 (1960), Central City is being monitored by a group of aliens from another dimension as a teaching aide in their advanced classroom. When the students witness Flash in trouble, they come to his rescue. However, their fascination with Flash leads them to discover his secret identity, which they keep to themselves as his secret fans. Through their observation, they discover a quirk in the technology they use to record Central City, which allows them to view events an hour into the future. One of Elider's laboratory assistants, Modrie, takes advantage of this information to become a wealthy man on Earth using future knowledge of the stock market and horse races. Modrie sets up a signal to broadcast to Earth and assumes the identity of "M.Odriex," refusing to pay taxes and gaining celebrity for his continued defiance. When Flash decides to investigate, he's stopped by Elider, who reveals to him the existence of his people. Elider warns Flash that his students have just witnessed Flash's death, gunned down by Modrie, thus initiating a series of events that could only be prevented by the Scarlet Speedster. Flash races to confront "M.Odriex" and allows the villain to shoot him, seemingly dying. However, Flash springs back up moments later and brings "M.Odriex" to the nearest police station. The rest of the story follows Wally West as Kid Flash, who intervenes when fellow classmate Kitty Clark's horse goes wild. West competes in a road rally with his father, where two thieves use the rally as a means to escape. Kid Flash saves the day by capturing the thieves and winning the rally for his father.
