The Flash #111 (1960)

High Value: $4,100
Minimum Value: $50

Police Forensics Scientist, Barry Allen, brings his date, reporter Iris West to a lecture where they meet Doctor Wiley Summers, Allen's old college colleague. During the lecture, Summers shares his bizarre experience he had while examining Mount Lassen, the only active volcano in the continental United States, where he discovered strange cloud formations exuding an air of menace. Summers theorized that the hostile clouds were "creatures" dwelling in the volcano, with a mission to wipe out humanity. Of course, the scientific community dismissed this as an extremist theory. However, after the clouds' attack on an army base, the clouds revealed themselves to the world, destroying everything in sight with lightning and thunder. The Flash races to meet the threat, running in a tight circle, generating a tornado. The Flash's attack fails, and the creatures easily avoid it, simply by increasing their elevation. The Flash notices a dark spot on each of the hostile clouds, which he discovers to be their nerve center. The Flash finally manages to destroy the final cloud, and as it dies, it becomes rain. The Flash invites West on another date only to learn that she is already going out with Summers. The Flash's protégé, Wally West, or Kid Flash, has his adventure as well. He discovers his super-speed abilities after waking up from a dream where he met the Flash and becomes his protégé. Later, as Kid Flash, he prevents a catastrophic fire caused by the gang named the Crimson Crows.
