The Brave and the Bold #28 (1960)

The Brave and the Bold #28 is a true gem in the comic book world. This iconic issue marked the first appearance of the Justice League of America, and it did so in an impressive fashion. In this story, we see Wonder Woman, The Flash (Barry Allen), Aquaman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), and the Martian Manhunter teaming up to save the people of Happy Harbor, Rhode Island, from the evil mental thrall of Starro the Conqueror. Even though Superman and Batman are revealed as fellow JLA members, they do not participate in the mission.
A unique aspect of this issue is the introduction of Lucas "Snapper" Carr as an honorary member and the team's official "mascot." The Secret Sanctuary, the League's first headquarters, is established in a mountain cavern outside of Happy Harbor.
The story reaches a thrilling climax as the League fights against multiple Starros. The Flash manages to defeat the final Starro by collapsing water on it and saving the people of Happy Harbor.
