Superman #46 (1947)

In Superman #46, we see the Man of Steel attempting to crank-start an old car, much to the disapproval of an old lady driver and a cop. But that's just the beginning of the adventures contained within this issue. We also get to witness Superman facing off against the impish Mr. Mxyzptlk as the latter decides to join a college baseball team that hasn't won in years. With Mxyzptlk on their side, they suddenly become unbeatable - and it's up to Superman to level the playing field.

Meanwhile, a flagpole sitting contest is held for the affections of a woman, and Superman has to ensure that the contest is fair. And as if that weren't enough, we're also treated to a text story by Stan Carter and the first-ever Superboy story in a Superman comic, as Clark checks up on some of his old classmates and helps them achieve their dreams.
