Strange Adventures #38 (1953)

In this particular comic book, Strange Adventures #38 (1953), we follow the journey of a hunter, a baseball player, and an astronomer who are taken by the Reynans. Captain Comet, a hero with remarkable abilities, realizes that all of them were taken because of their excellent eyesight. Eventually, the Reynans come for Captain Comet himself, and he chooses to go willingly.

Upon arriving on the Reynan planet, Captain Comet learns that the Reynans are going blind as a result of an intense super nova radiation. To compensate for their disability, the Reynans have been abducting humans with exceptional vision, to serve as their guides. However, Captain Comet is not one to be tied down by the Reynans and manages to escape. In a heroic rescue, he not only saves himself but also the other abductees.

This comic book raises important questions about disability and the lengths a civilization will go to compensate for it. Captain Comet takes a stand, declaring that an advanced society like the Reynans should be able to come up with their own ways of adapting, without relying on abducting humans.
