Showcase #39 (1962)

In Showcase #39 (1962), we follow Doctor William Magnus and Colonel Henry Caspar, along with their team, the Metal Men, as they investigate the last known whereabouts of Professor Ramsey Norton, a famed chemist. But as soon as they arrive on the roof of a high-rise, they are attacked by a massive hand bursting through the rooftop and grabbing Magnus and Platinum. Norton, it turns out, had been conducting chemical experiments to better mankind, which led to the creation of a giant plastic mold of a man called "Chemo". However, the chemical combination poured into Chemo had disastrous effects, causing the creature to go on a destructive rampage. With the dying Norton's request to destroy Chemo, the Metal Men go on a mission to stop the chemical monster, but only to be defeated one after the other. In the end, Magnus and Platinum are the only ones left to fight the creature and discover that the only way to stop it is with the help of powerful gas jets found deep in the Earth. With the pressure from the gas holding Chemo prisoner, the Metal Men are restored, and the team is safe once again.
