High Value: $3,500
Minimum Value: $42

In the iconic Metal Men #1 from 1963, we find the brilliant Dr. William Magnus and his incredible Metal Men posing for "Picture World" magazine. As the midday sun beats down, Mercury stretches high into the sky, prompting Lead to rush to his defense and protect him from the sun's searing heat. Meanwhile, Platinum's advances towards Magnus lead him to consider donating her to a science museum, but her memories of being taken away before cause her to plead with Magnus to keep her by his side.
As the Metal Men deal with the fallout of their emotions, Magnus takes them for a ride in his Jetaway, only to spot a shocking discovery - meteorites crashing into a gas storage tank. In the ensuing explosion, Tin and Lead are reduced to slag, and Iron and Gold suffer terrible damage. With the Metal Men repaired and revived, they soon discover that the seemingly natural meteorites were, in fact, machine-made by an uncontrollable robot on a distant planet.
This robot, designated "Z-1," had been marooned on a junkyard planetoid, where it built an army of "Missile Men" duplicates of itself and sought a queen to rule by its side. Spotting Platinum on Earth, Z-1 set its sights on Earth and brought its army of Missile Men with it. The Metal Men valiantly battled the horde of Missile Men, only to be left injured and defeated in their wake. But with a magnetic cannon, Magnus was able to draw the Missile Men to Z-1 and send them crashing into the ocean, imprisoning Z-1 in a shell of its own creation.
