In this classic issue of Detective Comics #226, we find John Jones - better known as the Martian Manhunter - taking on his toughest case yet. Our hero has already made a name for himself by cracking a few cases using his otherworldly powers, but this time he is tasked with keeping a close eye on Big Bob Michaels, a renowned baseball pitcher who once served time in prison.
As Jones begins to investigate, he discovers that Big Bob has been blackmailed by the mob. They want him to throw the game in order to make a tidy profit, and threaten to expose his past if he doesn't comply. Jones realizes that he must act quickly in order to help Michaels.
Using his powerful Martian telepathy, Jones uncovers the truth and comes up with a plan to help the Flamingos win the game. With his incredible Martian Molecular Hypnosis and Mind-Over-Matter abilities, he helps to control the outcome and secure a victory for Michaels. The Martian Manhunter doesn't stop there, however. He uses his invisibility to take out the mobsters who were blackmailing Big Bob and ensures justice is served.
As always, Detective Comics delivers an exciting and action-packed adventure, with the added bonus of our favorite shape-shifting Martian hero. This issue reminds us that even the most powerful beings can use their abilities to do good in our world.
