In Detective Comics #169 from 1951, Batman finds out an inmate about to be executed is innocent. With the storm taking down phone lines, Batman and Robin head to the prison in the Batmobile just in time. Upon arriving, Batman notices the nearly blind warden, and agrees to take his place while a replacement is found. When Batman tells an inmate named Tolmar about his parole, things start to get strange. Tolmar breaks out of his cell and takes a guard hostage to break into the warden's office and access the records of executed prisoners. Batman discovers something fishy after Tolmar gets injured, and goes undercover to find out what Tolmar is up to. This discovery leads Batman to uncover a $250,000 loot hidden by an executed man whose case Tolmar was researching. Tolmar, in his old cell, had written the state he hit the loot in, and the address was on the wall behind the bed in his death row cell. Incidentally, the comic also includes several other exciting stories.
