Blue Bolt #1 (1940)

Blue Bolt #1 (1940) introduces readers to Fred Parrish, a Harvard football star who gets struck by lightning while practicing punting drills in the rain. He takes off in his nearby plane for help, but another bolt strikes him, causing his plane to crash-land in the subterranean world of Deltos. There, he receives an injection of Radium that, combined with the lightning strikes, gives him incredible superpowers. He's appointed Deltos's protector and immediately battles the Green Empress, the enemy of Deltos. The issue also features the origin stories of other characters, such as Dick Cole Wonder Boy, Page Parks Air Hostess, The Sub-Zero Man, and Sergent Spook. We also get to enjoy funny cowboy strips, tales and traditions of the sea, and a description of the inventions of Edison Bell Young Inventor. Blue Bolt #1 is truly a classic in the comic book world.
