High Value: $1,000
Minimum Value: $12

Batman #164, published in 1964, is a classic double-action thriller featuring none other than Batman and Robin. This issue marks a significant shift in the focus of the Batman series, as it moves from battling aliens to a more detective-oriented run. But that's not all - this issue features a number of new additions to the Batman mythos. For the first time, readers are introduced to the secret wall panel that leads to an automatic elevator to the Batcave, replacing the grandfather clock entrance. At the bottom of the elevator, Bruce unveils the new sports car-style Batmobile, which exits the Batcave via an automatic door on a hillside. And as the Dynamic Duo drives into town, they discover a surprise - a new "hot-line" phone directly to Commissioner Gordon's office. This issue also introduces the Mystery Analysts of Gotham City, a group of detectives that includes Batman, Professor Ralph Vern (a laboratory sleuth), Art Saddows (a crime reporter), Kaye Daye (a crime novelist), and Police Commissioner Gordon. The group meets to discuss baffling mysteries, and at their first meeting, private eye Hugh Rankin tries to join the group by attempting to solve the mystery of Batman's secret identity. With Batman's permission, Rankin produces a dummy that looks nothing like Bruce Wayne at all - he's bald, overweight, and has a large nose. The club members look to Batman for verification, and the caped crusader removes his mask to reveal...he looks just like the dummy! If you're a fan of Batman or comics in general, this issue is a must-read.
