All-Star Comics #57 (1951)

High Value: $6,800

Minimum Value: $81

All-Star Comics #57, the final Golden Age issue before the title picked up again with issue #58 precisely 25 years later, features an exciting mystery centered around the JSA. The story, titled "The Mystery Of The Vanishing Detectives," sees four famed detectives from around the world arriving in Civic City for an international detective's convention hosted by the JSA. A staged crime is committed on a glass-walled set for the detectives to solve, but as soon as they figure it out, the stage lights suddenly get so bright that the reflection off the glass blinds the audience. Flash quickly finds and fixes the problem, but in the moments that take him, the four detectives disappear from the stage, leaving only a silver skeleton key as a clue. Only a moment later, four cablegrams arrive, one for each detective, each calling them home for an unusual case with a silver key left as a clue.

While the rest of the JSA stays to look for the missing detectives, Green Lantern, Dr. Mid-Nite, Flash, and Wonder Woman fly themselves to stand in for the missing detectives in different parts of the world. The mystery unfolds in a thrilling, globe-trotting adventure, with Dr. Mid-Nite uncovering a bank robbery in London, Flash investigating missing gargoyles in Paris, Wonder Woman tracking down stolen gold in Istanbul, and Green Lantern setting a trap for a thief in Honolulu. The team eventually discovers a hidden set of tunnels leading to a mansion where they find the four missing detectives immobilized by hypnosis. The story ends with a climactic showdown with the Key, who had taken the place of one of the detectives before the convention.

In addition to the main story, this issue also includes a text story titled "The Last Dictator" and a sci-fi adventure titled "The Lady Of Mars."
