Action Comics #86 (1945) features the classic Superman story "The Enchanted Mountain," which was later reprinted in Superman #272 and The Best of DC #3. In this story, Superman journeys to the town of Morabia in southeastern Europe to investigate rumors of the return of the evil wizard Wokit. Wokit has cast a spell that turns a small boy into a statue on the castle walls of his magical castle atop Wokit mountain. Superman fights the wizard off, but he eventually manages to hold Superman powerless in his grasp. Superman realizes that the wizard is nothing more than an illusionist, so he uses his mental strength to dispel the illusions. When Wokit casts an illusion of flaming meteors crashing into the town, Superman gathers the village together and convinces them that disbelieving in the illusions will make them vanish. The little boy appears back in the village, and Superman demolishes the mountain so the wizard's castle will have no base on which to rest. This classic comic book story is a must-read for any Superman fan and showcases the hero's strength and intelligence.
