Action Comics #50 (1942)

In Action Comics #50 (1942), Lois and Clark are on their way to meet the Metropolis baseball club in Florida. On the way there, they come across an amateur game where they spot a young man, Stan Doborak, with great pitching skills. Superman intervenes and convinces him to join the team's training camp. However, Stan gets thrown out due to a damaging article written by Clark. Superman takes Stan back into the camp, but they discover that Stan has become stuck up due to his success. As it turns out, Stan had fallen under the influence of the gangster Mike Caputo's blonde accomplice, Mabel Dawson, who encouraged him to rig games the gangsters bet on. Superman forces Caputo to confess and Stan sees the error of his ways.
