Action Comics #40 (1941) tells the tale of a philanthropic millionaire who offers $100,000 to charity if Superman can transform his unruly daughter, Nancy Thorgenson, who has a habit of squandering money at various gambling establishments. Despite his superpowers, Superman is in for a tough ride! This issue sees Superman agreeing to help the billionaire provided he donates the promised amount to charity. Upon meeting Nancy at a crooked casino, Superman takes matters into his own hands and addresses the rigged roulette table to make good for all her losses. Nancy is ungrateful, despite Superman's help, and refuses to change her ways. But, Superman won't take no for an answer and sets about trying to transform Nancy's life. As the story progresses, we see a number of intriguing plot twists and turns, including a dramatic flood that sweeps away Thorgenson's mansion. The story eventually reaches a heart-warming conclusion as Nancy begins to help flood victims and vows to devote her life to improving the lives of those in need.
