In Action Comics #38, Metropolis is hit by a strange series of crimes that puzzle none other than our superhero, Superman! Well-respected citizens suddenly become criminals and do not remember anything about their actions afterwards. Superman discovers that Lois is not acting on her own will when he stops her acting as a getaway car for a gold robbery. He explores her apartment and uncovers a hidden radio receiver under her bed. Superman then scours the city to find hidden radio transmitters and eventually discovers psychologist Harold Morton broadcasting messages to Lois and other members of the community. Morton uses hypnosis to force them into robberies, then makes them forget that they have committed crimes. Morton fails to defeat Superman with bizarre inventions and even tries to hypnotize him. Superman's superior will then hypnotizes Morton, forcing him to confess his crimes to the police.
