Action Comics #144 (1950)

High Value: $3,100
Minimum Value: $37

In Action Comics #144, we get a peek into the early beginnings of Clark Kent's career as Superman. As he stumbles upon an old issue of the Daily Planet, Clark reminisces about how he started working at the newspaper. It turns out that Perry White himself offered Clark a job after he graduated high school, which we get to read about in that month's Adventure Comics Superboy story.
But that's not all that this issue has to offer! We also get to see Tommy Tomorrow in action as he's tasked with venturing to a small planet that's spewing poison fumes onto Earth. His mission? To fit rockets to it and pilot it out of our system. The only problem is, the natives aren't keen on leaving their home planet.
There are a few gag strips and short stories sprinkled throughout the issue, but one of the most exciting tales involves Congo Bill. After a man discovers an old insurance policy that would pay out a whopping $20,000,000, Bill is sent on a wild expedition to uncover the lost gold.
There's certainly a lot to enjoy in Action Comics #144, with a good mix of serious adventure and more lighthearted fare. Whether you're a diehard Superman fan or just looking for a fun read, this issue is definitely worth adding to your collection.
