In Action Comics #121, we witness an epic showdown between Superman and Atlas. It all starts when a group of archaeologists discovers the tomb of Atlas in Greece. To their surprise, they find him in suspended animation and decide to awaken him. Once he learns about Superman, he challenges him to a series of strength tests, determined to prove himself as the strongest man alive.

Throughout the comic, we see Atlas and Superman engage in various incredible challenges, with Atlas winning every time. Something seems off, and Superman becomes suspicious. He follows Atlas to his home and discovers that there's more to his story than meets the eye. William Sharp, one of the archaeologists, is using Atlas to extort protection money from locals in the area.

Superman investigates further and discovers that Atlas is just a circus strongman who was paid to act the part of the legendary hero. All his feats of strength were done by hidden machinery. Once Atlas realizes his mistake, he helps Superman apprehend Sharp and do the right thing.
