Action Comics #100 (1946) introduces an intriguing plotline where a detective who has never failed suggests that Clark Kent and Superman are the same person. Inspector Hawkins of Scotland Yard approaches Clark Kent with his theory, backed by years of research and investigations. In his attempts to gather proof, Hawkins snips a sample of Clark's hair, but Clark manages to fool him by wearing a wig. Hawkins even goes to the extent of locking Clark in a vault, hoping that he would reveal himself as Superman, but Clark breaks out in a way that doesn't give away his secret. Desperate to prove himself right, Hawkins disguises himself as a factory worker and pushes Clark into a vat of perfume, but Superman uses sulphuric acid to get rid of the smell. In his final attempt to find evidence, Hawkins breaks into Clark's apartment. However, Superman plants a fake will that leaves everything to himself, dated ten years earlier, in Clark's desk. Hawkins falls for it, and he is finally convinced that Clark Kent and Superman are not the same person. This exciting and suspenseful story is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
