Star Spangled War Stories #84 from 1959 is a comic book that tells the story of Marie, an ordinary French farm girl who grew up listening to tales of high adventure during war as told to her by both her father and grandfather. When France was invaded by the Germans, Marie and her father joined the Resistance and became Maquis (resistance fighters). Tragically, Marie's father died in her arms during their first mission, leaving her in command of the local Resistance unit. Marie is a strong and compassionate character, a true inspiration to us all.
